Incept
Throughout the Blade Runner movie, Gaff (Edward James Olmos) makes subtle indirect comments about Deckard using Origami models.
Added to the Director's Cut, Deckard dreams about a unicorn, later, he finds an origami unicorn outside his apartment, left there by Gaff, suggesting that Gaff knows about Deckard's dream in the same manner that Deckard knows about Rachael's implanted memories and is therefore a replicant.
Our version of this iconic and mythical creature is based on the origami original which has been modelled in CAD then 3D printed in high resolution wax before final casting in Sterling Silver, 18k or Platinum.
The final work is then individually numbered, finished and checked in our London workshop before hallmarking at the London Assay office of the Goldsmiths' Company before despatch.
The 18k gold and platinum 950 editions each have an insurance valuation certificate provided by the Goldsmiths' Assay office of London.
Each piece is cast, finished and polished here in our London workshops, please allow 15 days for delivery.
Technical
Platinum 950
Pure platinum is a lustrous, ductile, and malleable, silver-white metal
Platinum is a chemical element with symbol Pt and atomic number 78. It is a dense, malleable, ductile, precious, grey - white transition metal. Its name is derived from the Spanish term platina, which is literally translated into "little silver".
Platinum 950 means that 95 per cent of the weight is made up of fine platinum.
Platinum 950/Cobalt is the very best alloy for platinum casting. It is very strong and has excellent casting properties. With this alloy it is possible to cast pieces of considerable detail and finesse.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.
Fine silver, for example 99.9% pure silver, is generally too soft for producing functional objects; therefore, the silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength while preserving the ductility and appearance of the precious metal. Other metals can replace the copper, usually with the intention of improving various properties of the basic sterling alloy such as reducing casting porosity, eliminating firescale, and increasing resistance to tarnish.
Vermeil
Pronounced “ver-may,” this material is a combination of silver and gold. To the naked eye, it looks just like pure gold but is far less expensive. With vermeil jewellery, the base metal used has to be sterling silver, The silver is then plated with 18 carat Gold.
18k Gold
The yellow colour of gold is caused by gold absorbing violet and blue light, but reflecting yellow and red light.
Pure gold is combined or 'alloyed' with other metals to add strength, and hardness . The amount and type of other materials (alloys) added determines the final carat (gold content) of the gold alloy.
18k gold is composed of 75% gold, which is alloyed with other metals, normally copper to make it strong enough for everyday use.
